Overcoming Obstacles to Your Success

In order to be successful, you have to overcome a great many things. Some of those obstacles are created internally. You can overcome these self-created obstacles with a little hard work and determination.

No matter what task you’re taking on, you can set yourself up for success!

Here are some ways to deal with obstacles that may thwart your endeavors:

1.      Understand your goals. Know exactly what it is you’re trying to do. You can’t just run in without a plan of some kind. Take the time to plan out your goals and the steps you intend to take to reach them.

  • Even with an exceptional plan, the reality is that things rarely go exactly as you’d expect. You’ll have to stop and make changes at times, and that’s okay! Be prepared for the unexpected with ideas on how to handle a situation if it arises.
  • Identify the parts of your plan that may become problematic and lay out alternatives.

2.      Trust yourself. You’re in charge of your journey to success. You set your goals and you’re the one making it happen, so you must trust yourself. If you truly have a great passion for what you’re going to do, then you’ll be the best judge of what you want.

·         Follow your instincts. That little voice in the back of your head may very well end up telling you exactly what you need to succeed in your goals.

3.      Get help. If there’s something in your way and it’s too big of an obstacle for you to remove on your own, get help! You can’t do everything by yourself. As humans, we’re social beings and we need help from those around us.

·         Get your friends, family or co-workers involved and welcome their input on how to get around an obstacle in your path.This will bring in new ideas and fresh perspectives on the problem in ways you may have never considered.

4.      Gain a fresh perspective. There are times when, no matter how hard you try, things just don’t go your way. This is where you need to stop, take a step back, and look at things from a different perspective.

·         You become used to your routine, so the fine details can easily slip past you. Take a break and walk away for a little bit. Change your focus for a time; then come back to the problem and you may see something you missed.

5.      Never ever give up. Nothing has ever been solved or accomplished by giving up. Vince Lombardi said it best: “Winners never quit and quitters never win!” This is as true as it gets.

·         Being too rigid on something can be counterproductive. In order to succeed, we sometimes have to change our approach completely. Keep at the problem until you find a solution. It’s there; you just have to find it.

6.      Start again. Sometimes, despite all your efforts, you need to rebuild from the ground up. Maybe one of your fundamental ideas was wrong and had an effect on everything else. This happens, and while it’s a setback, it’s not the end of your dream.

Being successful isn’t easy and it involves a lot of hard work, dedication and sometimes sacrifices. With these tips, a good plan, and positive people around you to help, you can accomplish anything you set your mind to.

As luck would have it, the women with whom you most want to network are usually the busiest. Trying to connect with these women can be challenging, because there’s so much competition for their time.

 

But these busy women are often the best contacts you can have. Most women who are always busy are that way for a good reason: a large number of people want to network with them.

For greater success, remember these tips when reaching out to such busy women:

 

1.      Think like a busy person. Consider their perspective. A busy person is unlikely give you a lot of attention without a really good reason. The fact that you reached out to them is not necessarily a guarantee that you’ll receive a response.

 

·         The busy person you have your sights on may receive upwards of hundreds of communications every day. They can’t give the same amount of attention to every contact. Just as your local emergency room must assist patients based on the severity of their medical issues, the busy person also sorts their interpersonal to-do list.

·         You may have a great and even noble reason for reaching out to them. But you must see reality from their perspective if you want to succeed in making contact. Would you rather spend a few extra hours returning phone calls and answering e-mails from strangers, or would you rather spend that time with your friends and family?

·         As you can see, busy people have to be very selective when it comes to returning communication attempts. This isn’t rudeness. They’re just being effective. Realizing this gives you a much better chance of connecting with them. Accept the fact that you’re going to have to function within their reality and not within your own.

 

2.      Be unique. Avoid sending the same thing they’ve seen 500 times already this week. If your email looks like everyone else’s or your phone call sounds like everyone else’s, you’re going to the same place all of those people have gone: to the virtual wastebasket.

 

·         Give them something unique if you want a personal reply instead of a canned response or no response at all.

 

3.      Use the least clogged communication channels. E-mail is almost always a bad idea. Even non-busy people frequently have more e-mail than they can reasonably answer. The phone may or may not be a good idea, depending on the person and their field of business.

 

·         Are you confident your e-mail will be read? Consider good, old snail mail. Most of us don’t get mail anymore besides bills. It would be even better if you hand wrote it on real stationary. You can guarantee it will be opened and read, especially if it is sent via FedEx or UPS.

 

Be creative in your approach.Making meaningful contact with busy people can be challenging, but it can certainly be accomplished. Always consider their perspective and the time pressure that exists in their lives. If you’re thoughtful, polite, and at least a little inventive, you can add that busy person to your contact list!

You can achieve great things through meditation. But what exactly are these things? The truth is that you get to create the definition. If you’re after success, meditation can help get you there.

Meditation has been around for ages and it’s a great, relaxing activity to engage in everyday. Also, it’s available to everyone in every moment. Plus, it’s completely free!

Ultimately, there are no excuses for not being able to meditate. Some will say that they simply don’t have enough time. But are you not worth a few minutes a day? Of course you are! You should be able to allot yourself at least 15 minutes per day, just to focus on your own success.

How Meditation Can Help

Meditation is an art that has many opinions associated with it and there are also many ways to meditate. A consensus remains around the fact that it’s about clearing your mind and remaining in the present moment. With regular practice you’ll gain the necessary clarity and discover truths about your life.

Meditation is a great way for you to discover something you may already know deep down. You operate on many levels and you already know how to achieve the success you desire. Problems arise when you spend too much time dealing with day-to-day activities and too little time exploring your depth.

Feel Your Emotions

Getting in touch with your emotions is an important thing. It’s not only reserved for females, nor is it something that will make you vulnerable. It’s an important step on your way to discovering success.

When you meditate and really feel your emotions on any subject, you’ll begin to tap into the truth. What is it that you’re really after? What is your true definition of success?

You’ll often hear of the actor that achieves fame but still doesn’t feel fulfilled. You may have also heard about the successful business mogul who reaches career and financial success but still feels incomplete at the end of the day. These people haven’t truly determined their own definition of success and, instead, have chased someone else’s dreams.

Enjoy the Process

You must stay present and enjoy the process. An actor will remain happy with his or her success if they truly love the art of acting. If they were only after fame and later discovered that it wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be, then they may have followed the wrong path and should reevaluate their path to success.

If you spent too much time on your business plans, make sure you take a step back and remember where you’re going. In this case, you can practice “walking meditation,” which is when you go through the steps of your day-to-day life completely aware of what you’re doing in each moment. This may sound easy, but it can be difficult to master!

Once you’ve decided where you’d truly like your life to go, you can take the steps to get yourself there. However, remember that you can’t get back lost time. There’s always a life lesson to be learned by the path you’ve chosen.

Remember that each moment brings incredible transformations. You need to allow this to happen and resist the urge to fight change. This also means that your life goals may change, as well. And that’s okay! It helps to go with the flow and be willing to adapt as you go.

Practice Affirmations

Affirmations are excellent statements to meditate on while you’re achieving your focus. If you remind yourself that you’ve already achieved success, you’ll get there.

Really spend some time envisioning your success. Think about what it feels like to achieve. In the same way that you would picture yourself in a safe place when you’re scared, picture yourself in a successful place when you have doubts.

6.      Bring color into your world. Your surroundings will become more vibrant because you’ll notice things like the subtle differences between the shades of the trees and the direction of the soft breeze.

7.      Being conscious of life makes life more fun. When you’re living consciously, bad days are few and far between.

Luckily, transforming your humdrum life into one filled with vibrant joy is easier than you may think! You can make some simple adjustments to your everyday routines to live consciously and more fully enjoy your life.

Here are some action steps you can take to bring conscious living to your life:

1.      Stop. Take some time to stop throughout the day and look around. Be aware of where you are and what’s around you. Become conscious of your surroundings and notice how you fit into them.

  • Notice the details such as the green on the trees, or the condensation dripping down the side of the cup.
  • Become in tune with what your body feels and actually search out the sensations of your fingers and toes while feeling your chest rise and fall with each breath.

2.      Breathe. Take deep breaths and be in the moment. Don’t think about what you’ve done or what you still have to do, just take a minute or two to just breathe!

3.      Learn. Take a few minutes each day to try something new. Pick up a book you’ve wanted to read or learn a new skill. By doing this, you’re starting to become conscious of your life and the things you can do with it.
